What do you do in the Data Mine?
Both fall and spring semesters, take a 1 credit hour asynchronous data science computing seminar (DATX 5895). This seminar, delivered by Purdue University, gives you practice working with huge data sets on the Anvil research supercomputing cluster. Join a Corporate Partners cohort for 3 additional credits of data science-related research (DATX 6996). The corporate cohorts work directly with the corporate sponsors to evaluate real data and solve real-world business problems. DATX 5895 and 6996 can be taken concurrently.
Why should I join the Data Mine?
Participate in the Data Mine for four (4) semesters to earn a Minor in Data Analytics! Graduate students in the Master of Science in Data Science & Statistics (MS-DaS) degree can satisfy graduate capstone requirements with a one year commitment to the YSU Data Mine.
There are many new and emerging data science career opportunities in all interdisciplinary fields. According to labor market research, the field of data science is expected to grow by over 26% through 2026.

Who can join the Data Mine?
Anybody! No matter your major, data science is key to your future successes. Everybody needs to be data literate in a data-driven world.
